6歳よりカタック舞踊に親しみ、そのトリコ。しなやかで美しい舞踊/振付家として著名な、巨匠クムディニ・ラキアに20年に渡り師事。
2006年ICCRスカラシップを得てGujarat州AhmedabadにあるKADAMB舞踊学校へ国費留学。以来、日印の国際文化交流の場で多くの出演をしている。
2007年カダムジャパンを創立、主宰。東京を拠点に、カタック舞踊を伝統的なスタイルで振付指導するインスティテュートとして振付指導をする。また群舞で多くの舞台出演をしている。毎年「アムルート・マンタン」舞踊公演を主催。インド古典芸術の舞台制作も手がけ「インド、独り舞ふ」等が好評。
2015年「スヴァルナパルヴァ」公演招聘を機に「狐雨」を振付。以来、東京ガラナ(流派)をコンセプトとした作品の創作振付、上演をする。

2022年よりインド大使館ヴィヴェーカナンダ・カルチュアルセンター舞踊講師を務める。

2022年度ICCR主催プラティバ・サンガム・コンペティションにおいて、カタック部門の第1位を受賞。インド4都市で10公演を上演。

2025年インド共和国ナレンドラ・モディ首相の来日を歓迎した会にてライヴ上演。

Atsuko Maeda is a prominent Kathak dancer and choreographer based in Tokyo, Japan, recognized as one of the leading Kathak exponents in the country.
Her journey in Kathak began at the age of six, and she became a devoted disciple of the renowned Kathak maestro Smt. Kumudini Lakhia ji, training under her at the KADAMB institute in Ahmedabad, India, for two decades.
Atsuko received an ICCR scholarship from the Government of India in 2006, which facilitated her intensive study at KADAMB starting in 2007.
In 2007, Atsuko Maeda founded and became the director of Kadamb Japan, an institute based in Tokyo dedicated to teaching and promoting Kathak dance in its traditional style.
She is passionate about teaching Kathak and frequently performs in international and cultural exchange programs between Japan and India. Since 2022, she has also served as a dance teacher at the Indian Embassy Tokyo Culture Center VCC.
Maeda is known for her innovative choreographic works that integrate Kathak with Japanese traditions, such as "Fox Rain" and "Amabie," and she is credited with pioneering the concept of "Tokyo Gharana." She annually hosts the "Amrut Manthan" dance performances and has produced Indian classical art stages like "India, Dancing Alone." Her contributions to Kathak have been recognized with awards, including the 1st Prize in Kathak at the ICCR Pratibha Sangam Competition in 2022 and the Grant of Ade Award from ICCR in 2019-2020.
